Each NFL team can have up to fifty-three players on the roster. Of these players, only forty-five can dress and play on game day. Teams get players either through the draft or by signing free-agents to contracts. Free agents are players who don't currently have a contract with an NFL team. Sometimes this is because they weren't drafted out of college and sometimes it's because their current contract expired.
